1) What is Link ?

Link is defined as the "connectivity of two devices so that they can communicate with each other".

2) What are the layers of the OSI Model ?

Following are the seven layers of the open system interconnection model :

  1. Physical Layer
  2. Data link Layer
  3. Network Layer
  4. Transport Layer
  5. Session Layer
  6. Presentation Layer
  7. Application Layer

3) What is the backbone network ?

Backbone network is the major and the centralized area of the network  that is responsible for the  distribution of routes to the different network.

4) What is node ?

Any device in the network that is a part of the network is known as the node.

5) Define Router ?

Router is a networking device and it is used to integrate LAN and WAN. Router is a unicast device and this device is work on the basis of the ip addresses. So Router is layer 3 device which mean it is a network layer device.

6) What is the point to point link ?

Point to point link is the defined as the "it is the direct link between the devices so there should not be device in between the two devices for the connectivity".

7) What is a subnet mask ?

Subnet mask is a address that define address network portion and host portion basically it is a source of the presentation of the network part and host part.

8) What is Virtual Private Network ?

Virtual Private Network is the technology that is used to make the secure tunnel between the local and remote site. VPN is the establishment of the secure tunnel between the two sites.

9) What is RIPv1 ?

RIP stands for the routing information protocol and it is a routing protocol which is use to calculate the path on the basis of hop count. RIP version 1 is the protocol that propagate the routing table every 30 seconds and it is not supportive for the subnetting.

10) What is Serial Line interface protocol ?

Serial Line interface protocol is the oldest protocol for the access of remote site. It is also known as the SLIP and it the protocol that is developed in the early days of UNIX.

11)  What are the names of the protocols that are supported by the Windows RRAS ?

Following are the names of the protocols:

  • IPX
  • TCP/IP
  • NetBEUI

12) How many addresses exist in the IPv4 ?

IPv4 is the 32 bit address so there are total 2^32 addresses exist that equal to the approximately 4.29 billions addresses.

13) What is the drawback of the ring topology ?

The main drawback of the ring topology if one device goes down in the network than all the other devices will go down and it is slower topology and this topology is not scalable topology.

14) What is encryption ?

Encryption is the phenomena in which information is translate into a code that is not understandable and unreadable  for the humans.

15) What are the prerequisite of the VTP ?

Following are the prerequisite of the VTP:

  • All the link should be trunk.
  • VTP domain name should be same.

16) What is the difference between the straight through cable and cross over cable ?

Straight through cable is the cable that is used for the connectivity of different devices and on the other hand cross over cable is the cable that is used for the connectivity of same devices.

17) What are the possible hosts in the class B of IPv4 ?

2^16=65536

65536-2=65534, these are the possible numbers of hosts in the class b.

18) On which layer TCP/UDP work ?

Transport layer is the layer where TCP/UDP work.

19) What are the advantages of the packet switching ?

Following are the advantages of the packet switching:

  • Better link utilization.
  • Parallels Transmission.
  • Brusty Nature of communication.

20) What is the protocol ?

Protocol is defined as the "set of rules and formats for exchanging data arranged into the layers".

21) What are the properties of LANs ?

Following are the properties of the LANs:

  • Small Geographical Area (2km).
  • High Bandwidth
  • Low Latency.

22) What is Split Horizon ?

Split horizon is the functionality to avoid the loops. It is the solution of avoid loops which is that if one router transmit the updates than that one router not receive the updates.

23) What is the multicasting address of the RIPv2 ?

The multicasting address is 224.0.0.9

24) What is the administrative value OSPF ?

So the administrative value of OSPF is 110.

25) What is the algorithm of ISIS Routing Protocol ?

The algorithm name of ISIS routing protocol is Dijkstra's Algorithm.

26) What is difference between the routing table and topology table ?

Topology table is the table that consist of the all the paths and routing table is the table in which only best paths exist.

27) What is difference between the jitter and clock rate ?

jitter is the variation in the delay and on the other hand clock rate is the data transfer speed of an interface and it is measured in the Hz.

28) On which Layer OSPF works ?

OSPF is the routing protocol it is the protocol that is totally network layer protocol.

29) What is the loopback interface ?

Loopback interface is the interface when you create loopback interface on a router it always up and it never goes down.

30) What is router ID ?

Router ID is the id that is identification of the router in a network. Router ID is the largest ip address of the router if one loopback exist then loopback will make the router router id even it's decimal value less.

31) What is the passive interface ?

Passive interface is the interface that is use to disable the hello packets.

32) What are the OSPF LSA types ?

Following are the types of OSPF LSA:

  1. LSA Type 1                Router LSA
  2. LSA Type 2                Network LSA
  3. LSA Type 3                Summary LSA
  4. LSA Type 4                Summary ASBR LSA
  5. LSA Type 5                External LSA
  6. LSA Type 6                Multicasting LSA
  7. LSA Type 7                NSSA LSA
