Hub
Fig 1: Hub | Broadcasting Device |
Hub is the networking device and it stands for Hybrid Universal Broadcast which is known as the layer 1 device because it operate on the physical layer that layer is the first layer of OSI (Open System Interconnection) Model. This device is not intelligent device it is only responsible for the broadcasting. Hub is the device that is generally connect the computers in the Local Area Network. This device is very common device but in these days this device not use in the secure sector because of it behavior of the broadcasting. This device has many ports. This device only used for providing the connectivity to the end users.
Following are the features of the Hub networking device:
- Hub is the device which is use to handle the data type which is known as the frames.
- So the role of hub is that when it receives the frames it is transmitted the frames to the destination ports of the computers and it forward all the destinations that are connected in it's ports directly.
- It deals with data types bits or signals of electric.
- Hub is used in the small networks and small offices which is also called the SOHO networks (Small Office Home Office).
- Hub device is the cheapest device in the networking devices.
- It is very easy to install.
- This device is the device that has no impact on the performance of the network.
- It is the device which has no brain means has no ability for the identification of the best path.
- And it is not used in the full duplex mode.
- Hub has no capability to filter the the transmitted information.
- Hub is a passive device.
- Mostly collisions occur in it's setup.
